App Planning and UX Design to Foster Informed Care Decision-Making
About Our Client
The Client is a US-based healthcare SaaS company providing digital solutions that help medical professionals educate patients, ensure their understanding of the treatment process, and help patients make decisions regarding consent to treatment.
Challenge
The Client wanted to develop a SaaS application to foster informed decision-making for patients and physicians regarding medical diseases and conditions. To achieve this, the shared decision-making app was to have a knowledge base for patients, enable treatment plan creation for physicians, and collect treatment consents from patients. The Client needed expert help in finalizing the application’s idea, devising a full functionality set, and prioritizing app features to start the development project.
Solution
Taking into account ScienceSoft’s experience with healthcare software development, the Client commissioned ScienceSoft to create a detailed feature list and a requirements specification for their application. To accomplish the task, ScienceSoft’s business analyst specializing in healthcare explored the project idea and interviewed the key stakeholders to describe the application’s vision answering the stakeholders’ needs.
With the help of the obtained information, ScienceSoft’s BA specified application user groups and developed an app specification.
The following user groups were distinguished:
- Patients.
- Physicians.
- Admins — to manage educational materials and grant patients and physicians access to the application.
- Medical staff — to manage a consent database.
The app specification included:
- The feature tree for all user groups.
- The requirements for secure data storage (patient-doctor in-app interactions and aggregated patient consents).
- The requirements for creating and updating a library of educational materials for patients.
- Accurate project cost and duration estimations and a risks register.
Having described and prioritized functional app requirements, ScienceSoft’s BA created the wireframes to visualize the future application’s interface.
Results
The Client obtained an application requirements specification and a full list of prioritized app features. This enabled the Client to start building the application for patients and physicians to make informed decisions about the treatment process and discuss treatment options openly. ScienceSoft’s business analysis allowed the Client to avoid risks related to potential project modifications and save the development time.
