ScienceSoft and Home Credit Bank: on guard of information security

ScienceSoft is proud to announce commissioning of another project in the sphere of information security for Home Credit Bank – the branch of the international holding Home Credit Group with the regional network spanning across 44 offices throughout the country and more than 3100 sales outlets.

Home Credit Bank chose ScienceSoft to implement the high-level tuning of IBM Security QRadar SIEM system (Security Information and Event Management). While the IBM out-of-the-box tools can monitor only the events from log services, the specific banking needs ask for analyzing over 1,000 security events happening every second across different banking applications. ScienceSoft specialists integrated the banking systems and business applications and built 10 customized modules. These modules gather, clear and analyze the data to trace events which are not supported by standard tools.

Now the complex security analysis of the bank’s workflows is carried out automatically and the further correlation of these events helps to timely reveal any violations and suspicious activity, for example, from the former employees. Drawing together the world’s best practices and our own experience with security projects, our specialists have developed a set of 60 correlation rules to cover such scenarios. In case one of the rules is breached the response system activates automatically and the bank’s security officer receives an email notification and has a new issue registered in the incident management system.

The active stage of the project lasted for three months and the implementation was carried out by ScienceSoft’s leading SIEM consultant Serguei Tchesnokov. Thanks to the developed solution, the bank can now investigate incidents in the shortest time possible, thus increasing the security for its clients. The project is now in the support phase, however, as new security threats appear the system may be enriched with further scenarios. The cooperation between Home Credit Bank and ScienceSoft dates back to 2013 and started with a small pilot project which later developed into a fruitful partnership.
