Challenge

A North American university-based company providing surgical instrument tracking services conducted research that showed that 78–87% of tools in operating rooms go unused. Such inefficiency results in unnecessary costs, delayed surgeries, and greater instrument wear. To help hospitals optimize surgical tray management, the Client partnered with ScienceSoft to create RFID-based software for instrument tracking and analyzing tool usage data.

Our solution

The collaboration resulted in an automatic and 100% data-driven system that has revolutionized surgical instrument management. To speed up the process, ScienceSoft’s specialists introduced a DevOps approach, which fostered smooth collaboration among the development, operations, and quality assurance teams, and configured the CI/CD pipeline. Extensive testing showed precise and dependable data capture and processing during surgical simulation. According to the pilot studies conducted later, the solution halved the surgical tray contents, saving up to $155,000 per operating room annually. When extrapolated to larger institutions with over 30,000 annual surgeries, the estimated annual savings reached $7 million.

Challenge

AKLOS Health, an innovative healthcare startup from Dallas, wanted to improve the traditional physical rehabilitation process. They engaged ScienceSoft to create a wearable-based digital platform that would enable fully personalized remote physiotherapy. The solution had to accurately measure the range of motion (ROM) so that therapists could assess patients’ progress and adjust their program accordingly.

Our solution

Within just six months, we delivered a fully functional MVP. Then, after receiving user feedback, AKLOS Health entrusted us with the software evolution. To enhance the accuracy of the wearable sensors, our developers built proprietary motion capture algorithms tailored to the specifics of knee joints and low back mobility. With these unique algorithms, the solution showed a 70% reduction in pain, a 71% reduction in unnecessary surgeries, and a 52 % lower need for medication consumption among its users.

Challenge

A US-based nonprofit focused on mental health disorders involved ScienceSoft to upgrade its legacy mental health software. The complex system had scarce documentation, which complicated its revamp. Prolonged modernization would expose the client to growing operational and security risks, which was unacceptable due to the sensitive and highly regulated nature of the nonprofit’s activities.

Our solution

With a well-organized Agile collaboration, it took ScienceSoft only 4 weeks to audit the client’s mental health system, restore the missing software documents, and introduce a detailed modernization plan. Following the audit, we rearchitected the system, refactored its legacy code, and developed new features. Applying Scrum and AAMI TIR45 methodologies at the revamp stage helped us speed up releases while ensuring FDA compliance. Thanks to the robust risk, change, and budget management practices applied by the PM and team lead, the client avoided scope creep and cost overruns that often occur in complex healthcare IT projects. The delivered software documentation helped the organization streamline solution maintenance and further evolution.
